Hi y’all! My name is Kristal Osorio. I was born and raised in Quezon City, Philippines but resided in the East Bay after migrating. I am a 3rd year student of San Francisco State, majoring in Sociology and minoring in Race & Resistance Studies. Fun fact: I love the show Steven Universe.

WHY ARE YOU APPLYING FOR THE ABOVE POSITION?

I want to apply for NCPASA’s Community Action Chair because I want to help provide education that is necessary for our community to receive. I want to highlight the importance of giving back to our homeland because we would not be here where we are in the United States if it was not for the issues that forced us out of the Philippines.

WHY DO YOU BELIEVE NCPASA IS IMPORTANT?

I believe that NCPASA is important because as Filipinx Americans in the United States, being united through an alliance is a way that we can support each other in a country where the system is not in our favor. I do think that NCPASA is a good networking community and it has a potential to grow in many different ways, but I want it to be something more, not just for that one aspect.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO SERVE THE PILIPINX/PIL-AM COMMUNITY? WHY THROUGH NCPASA? HOW?

I want to serve the Pilipinx/Pil-Am community because I think that we are privileged to be in NorCal for having access to communities where we can be more involved in the community and/or get resources, but do not use it to our advantage as collegiate organizations. I want to provide the education that is necessary for us to understand the conditions here and back home through workshops that I have taken from other organizations and some that I facilitated as well. I would like for my committee to fulfill certain roles in terms of educating, doing community service and campaign work.
